The doors to ATOM’s first industrial supplies store opened in Darwin (NT) in 1978. Originally ATOM Supply, the name came from Aqua Terra Oil Mineral, meaning “supplying to land and oil”. A small founding team were significant in establishing the first few branches and gaining the trusted reputation which has been sustained to this day. From such humble beginnings, ATOM continued to increase in growth with each annum and it didn’t take long for the name to become synonymous with the supply of quality industrial hardware, safety and specialist oil & gas products.

40 years on, ATOM now operates a national network, which includes Australia’s largest Industrial Walkthrough Warehouse. We’re proud to have welcomed over 300 people to our growing team of “ATOMites”, providing employment opportunities to locals surrounding our warehouses in a diverse multitude of roles.

Some of our major highlights include:

In 2010, the ATOMic Services division was created to help our customers transform their industrial consumable supply management process through state-of-the-art tracking and reporting, while bringing products closer to where their workforce need them most.

In 2012, our family grew even bigger and we gained a sister. Bishops is the leading industrial supplier in Papua New Guinea, supplying industrial and engineering goods to trade and industry across PNG and the Solomon Islands. For any PNG export queries, please contact our Brisbane warehouse or visit the Bishops website.

In 2017, after identifying a gap in the market for a business that was truly taking safety seriously, our ATOM Safety division (originally ATOMise) was created to provide independent safety advice to the industry. Our team of experts utilise the ATOM Safety Workplace Risk Assessment to perform a comprehensive analysis of a workplace’s safety environment, and recommend tailored solutions to help reduce the cost of managing workplace safety.

One of our proudest milestones during our journey has been the creation of the ATOM Community Engagement (ACE) Fund. ATOM is committed to contributing 1.5% of sales to go towards worthy charities in the Indigenous education, youth-to-work and health and community space, as well as men’s and women’s cancer prevention and care. We also believe in supporting local initiatives, doing our bit to support the communities that have helped us become Australia’s fastest growing industrial and safety supply company.

Along the way we have acquired a number of businesses to continue our growth, including Geraldton Industrial Supplies (GIS) in 2007, Express Industrial Supplies in 2014 to expand our footprint in New South Wales and Victoria, and Workforce Clothing in 2019, growing our trade in South Australia and other key locations.

Where to from here? We’re just getting started! We want to bring our suite of capabilities and hundreds of thousands of products closer to where our customers need them most, with more warehouses opening in new locations soon. Keep an eye on our LinkedIn and join our mailing list to stay up-to-date with everything ATOM!
